Hello! My name is Makenna Slocum. Animals have always been my biggest passion. As a little kid I would constantly be “training” our family dogs. Whether it was new tricks, or setting up an agility course with broom sticks and flower pots! I’ve always known I would have an animal based career. Out of high school I was training horses. For some time I was an exercise rider at Portland Meadows and was working my way up to become a jockey. After some unfortunate life events, I changed my path and went to school for horse massage. I am now double certified in maintenance and performance equine massage and do have my own business for this as well!

I have always been someone that can never do just one thing, so why not add dog training into the mix too?! I have my Professional Dog Training Certification (CPDT-KA) and recently received my CSDT-1 (Certified Scent Detection Dog Trainer). I have been professionally training dogs for 5 years now and I look forward to the many years to come.

Aside from work, I have an amazing son named Drew. I hit the jackpot with having a son that is just as passionate about animals as I am. I also have a 2 year old chocolate lab named Otter. He is my hunting lab who I’ve trained to hunt for antler sheds. I also hope to compete in NACSW (National Association of Canine Scent Work) with him! When I’m not spending time with my son or training Otter, you can typically find me practicing shooting my bow or at my desk drawing realistic animals.
